Two years ago South Ocala Animal Clinic began a local ministry called Feeding Pets of the Homeless. Dr. Kevin Stoothoff, Dr. Lisa Laviola-Dowd and Dr. Sarah Kirk visit the interfaith soup kitchen in Ocala every two weeks, on Wednesday afternoons. Vaccines, limited health care and pet food are provided all at no charge for pets belonging to low income residents and homeless citizens. Registration and documentation of receiving government assistance is required to receive services. The three veterinarians recognize that time, talent and treasure are gifts from God, and that in practicing good stewardship they want to assist the pets belonging to those less fortunate. Dr. Stoothoff says the small group of dedicated volunteers and regular donations have allowed them to continue to provide food and medicine for animals that are loved, but otherwise would receive no medical care. Donations of pet food and checks made out to Feeding Pets of the Homeless are accepted at the clinic. As a registered 501c3 organization, all donations are tax deductible.
